My Background & TrainingInitial Interest - Martial Arts My training in energy arts began in 1980 when I was 26 years old. I first studied Shaolin kung fu and hsing i chuan in Denver, Colorado with Bruce Frantzis, who has been my primary teacher ever since. Chi Gung and Tai Chi for HealthWithin six months I also began to study chi gung and the Chen Pan Ling style of tai chi with Bruce. In 1981, I moved to Boston, Massachusetts to obtain a Masters Degree in Technology and Policy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After receiving my degree I began eight years of work in the environmental movement as a technical and legal expert. During this time I studied with teachers in the Boston area, including three years of weekly classes with Yang Style tai chi lineage master Gin Soon Chu. Also, although Bruce was mostly living and studying in China, whenever he was in the States I continued my training with him. Chi Gung Tui Na BodyworkIn 1982 Bruce decided that I had some natural ability with chi gung tui na. He has been training me regularly on a one-on-one basis ever since. Brookline Tai Chi In 1992, I founded Brookline Tai Chi in the Boston area, where I offered chi gung tui na bodywork sessions and classes in tai chi, chi gung, and ba gua. Over the years it grew to be one of the biggest tai chi schools in the United States, with a peak enrollment of over 450 students. During this time period, I especially focused my own studies with Bruce on the arts of ba gua and TAO meditation. Through these arts I stepped up my understanding of the meditation and spiritual aspects of the Taoist Water Method tradition which Bruce teaches. In 2005 I gave Brookline Tai Chi to Water Way Arts for Health and Energy, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization that I helped found. Current ActivitiesBruce today is one of America's foremost experts in Chinese energy arts for health, healing, meditation, and martial arts. He has authored seven books on energy arts and regularly trains instructors and teaches in the U.S. and Europe. I am one of his nine Senior Instructors in the U.S. and Europe. I often assist him when he teaches retreats or trains instructors. I have the following instructor certifications from Energy Arts, Inc.:
Bruce has authorized me to practice chi gung tui na bodywork and to advertise that he is my teacher. In 2006 I founded the Moving Tiger Chi Gung Method, through which I teach Dragon & Tiger Chi Gung in an authentic and contemporary manner. I have taught over 15,000 hours of private and group classes. For More InformationFor additional information about my background, please click here.
